A Train Runs Through It

by Bobby Lee

/

about

I grew up along the Penn Central main line in western
Pennsylvania. Sometimes when my friends and I were playing music, a train would pass by. It was loud, but we kept playing anyway. That was the inspiration behind this song.

Instruments used:
Desert Rose Vintage Pro S-8 pedal steel
Line6 Variax 300 modeling guitar
Line6 Variax 700 bass
The “train” is MIDI tracks generated by Band-in-a-Box.

The instruments were recorded with a Line6 TonePort UX2 computer interface, through their GearBox software. Tracks were recorded and mixed in GarageBand on a Mac Mini.

Final mastering utilized the Waves Renaissance compressor in Steinberger WaveLab. I use very old Windows versions of these programs running in Parallels Desktop on the same Mac Mini.

This song was written and produced in January 2011 for the Steel Guitar Forum Showcase MP3 project.
